Discover Hoi An through its legends, symbols, and secrets that still whisper in the night. As dusk falls over the Old Town, follow your Discova storyteller-guide on an immersive evening walk where every corner holds a tale. Our Myths & Secrets of the Ancient Town walk begins at the Ancient Well on the corner of Hoi An Market, a quiet spot woven into centuries of daily life and local belief, surrounded by stalls piled high with herbs, incense, lanterns, and fresh produce.
From here, continue to the Fujian Assembly Hall, where local sailors once prayed to the Sea Goddess Thiên Hậu before crossing dangerous seas. The walk then leads to the Ba Lê Well, believed by many to hold sacred Cham water – the mystical ingredient that gives life to the town’s famous Cao Lầu noodles. You will also get to taste this dish in a nearby family-run eatery tucked inside an old shophouse and learn how centuries of trade shaped its unique flavour.
Strolling deeper into the lantern-lit streets, pause at a local herbal tea shop for a herbal tea, a drink rooted in healing and harmony for centuries. Along the way, your guide brings ancient stories to life, from the dragon sleeping beneath the Japanese Bridge to the Faifo girl who waited forever for her sailor, and the beliefs that gave meaning to the town’s bridges, wells, and shrines. The walk ends at the riverside, where the Thu Bồn River comes alive at night with glowing lanterns, wooden boats, and the hum of cafés and market stalls. Guests are welcome to spend the rest of the evening in the area, taking a famous boat ride on the river or enjoying dinner at one of the many nearby restaurants.
